Spanish
INTENT. IMPLEMENTATION. IMPACT.
Our Modern Foreign Languages curriculum is led by Sarah Lewis. We believe that introducing children to another language at a young age broadens their horizons, deepens cultural understanding, and equips them with valuable communication skills for the future.
We teach Spanish from Year 1 to Year 6 through an engaging and progressive curriculum. Lessons are designed to be fun, interactive, and memorable, using songs, stories, games, and practical activities to support children’s learning. This approach helps pupils to absorb vocabulary naturally and enjoyably while developing their listening, speaking, reading, and early writing skills in Spanish.
As children move through the school, they learn how to hold simple conversations, ask and answer questions, express opinions, and use everyday language with increasing confidence. They also explore aspects of Spanish culture, including traditions, festivals, food, and daily life. This cultural understanding helps children appreciate the diversity of our world and fosters curiosity and respect for other communities.
By the time pupils leave us, they have gained a strong foundation in Spanish, increased confidence in communicating in another language, and a positive attitude toward language learning—skills that prepare them well for their continued education and for becoming global citizens.
Have fun with Spanish at home...
