Although we appreciate that children may become unwell from time to time, regular school attendance must remain a high priority. Please note that requests for leave during term time will not typically be authorised. Schools may only approve such requests when there are exceptional circumstances, as defined by statutory guidance.

Even where exceptional circumstances are identified, the school will also take into account a range of additional factors, including:

• the child’s previous attendance record
• their ability to catch up on any missed learning
• the broader impact of any absence during the requested period
